This series consists of one register relating to the adoption of children in the Northern Territory. Page nos 1-139 are in chronological order and include the following information columns; date of application (by adoptive parents); name, address and file number of applicants; type of child requested (age, sex, and race); and date of placement. Most entries were crossed out with annotations made relating to the progress of the application or whether an application was cancelled or withdrawn, or if a child was placed and if an Adoption Order was made by the court. There are annotations relating to couples who were evacuated from Darwin after Cyclone and one reference regarding family members killed during the cyclone (page no.92). The remaining pages of the register (pages nos 140-322) are blank and the alphabetical index at the front of the register was not used. Annotations on various entries (page nos 49-139) state transferred to new register. The register is fragile from constant use and handling and there are many loose, damaged pages. Some language used in these records (which reflects the language used at the time the records were created) may be offensive. This series may contain references to Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these records available. Care and discretion should be used when viewing these records.
